Template Locking
Learn about the lifecycle of a template and how to properly work with templates.
What is locking?
By default, a template can be edited by any user that has permission to do so. Oftentimes, you will not want a template to be used in a project until the template is perfect. The template should be both repeatable and complete.
When a template is locked, it is ready to be used when creating a new project/location.
Locking prevents making ANY modifications to the template. Once a template is locked, it cannot be unlocked. This behavior maintains the consistency of the template, and the projects/locations that derive from them.
If you accidentally lock a template, you can simply create a copy of it and begin editing the new template.
If you accidentally use a template in a project or location, you can delete the project/location as long as they have not begun.
A locked template cannot be deleted.
Locking Issues
A template can only be locked if the following applies:
The project tasklist has at least one task
The location tasklist has at least one task
The template is not already locked
